Regional wrestling happened last weekend, and before long, Ball Arena will be home to many young men and women looking to stand on the podium. I wish all our state qualified wrestlers luck. Leave it all on the mat!!!

The past week I had the privilege of speaking to the sixth-grade class at Centauri Middle School. They had been hearing about social emotional skills. I talked with them about the important topic of bullying. During our conversation, I spoke about the downside of what could happen. By the end, many of the kids were in tears, including myself. I saw them all consoling each other, coming together, by showing great kindness and no hate. That truly made my heart smile. I love my kids!

I also told them during our conversation that I wanted to start with them: for them to set an example to others. I asked them to do something or say something kind to someone every day. And when asked how their day was, I wanted the answer to be, “It was great because I helped . . .” or “It was great because I made someone feel good today.” That is how we create positive change. One good deed at a time.

Great kids, doing great things, for a great cause!!

Kassidy Reed donated some of her stuffed animals to me so I would have them just in case another student may need one in time of need or sadness. Thank you, Kassidy!

Katelyn McCarroll and Kenedi Shawcroft discovered another school in Florida impacted by Hurricane Milton and needed toys for the preschool. Through a service project, they were able to help. Way to go ladies!!

Reading my newsletter may get you lunch on me!

After my last newsletter, I had so many kids and one teacher tell me the answer, so I had to draw names this go around. I wish I could have given everyone a gift card. I appreciate everyone who reads it and plays along! Keep reading, keep playing, and maybe your name will be next.

The question was “How deep is the Last Chance Mine?” Congratulations to Mr. Perea, Emma Booth, Joslyn Sowards, and Kenedi Shawcroft for telling me it is 1,190 feet deep and for their names being drawn.

The week of February 3–7 was National School Counseling Week. On behalf of our kids, I want to thank all our counselors from North Conejos, South Conejos, and Sanford School Districts for everything they do for them. You are such a vital part of their education!!!

Thanks for taking the time to read my newsletter. If you see me or Dep. Lujan, tell us the answer: Who was the commander of Fort Garland from 1866–1867, and why did he resign his commission?
