Message Corner
September came and went about as fast as the leaves changed. The mornings are getting just a little bit colder, days are getting shorter, and soon we will be looking at snow capped moutains throught the Valley.
I have started to do site assessments on all of our schools to identify concerns. I am looking at everything from the potential vulnerabilities of unlocked or propped open exterior doors, hazards around the school that pose a safety concern, and safety concerns within the buildings themselves. I am looking at things that are stored in closets that could be a potential hazard such as flammable liquids near electrical boxes or gas boilers. I am checking the types of door handles on each classroom and how they lock from the inside. Other things that I may note are tripping hazards in the buildings and exposed windows in the bathrooms and whether or not they can be looked into from the outside.
Doing these assessments are for the safety of our kids, staff, and all that visit. I hope by identifying these things it creates a climate within our buildings that makes everyone feel safe and welcome.

| Shout Outs and Great Things Kids Are Doing
As September 11th passed this year, art classes were paying tribute through drawings, paintings, and sculptures made from paper. They were all great and contained a lot of thought about what that day meant. Those that created these art pieces did not live when it happened but have learned about it. It was a day that I will never forget as to what happened, where I was, and how I felt. It was a very sad day in American history. I think this painting is not only exceptional artwork but it paid a wonderful tribute to the meaning.

Congratulations and Thanks!!!!! Last newsletter I asked the question on how long I have been married to my wife. The answer was found in my introduction as to who I am and what I do as an SRO. Josh Madril at Antonito, and Tylan Crowther and Daniel Saucedo at Sanford correctly answered it by telling my thirty two years. Enjoy your Subway! Thanks for reading my newsletter kids!!

Bringing the Community Together | ||||||||
Danisha Martinez of South Conejos Schools, recently put together a car show and presentation to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The community volunteered their time to bring their cars, trucks, and lowrider bike to the football field at the school. Cars of all kinds and from different decades were there. Owners showcased the trophies they have won over the years. You can tell they take pride in their car and love to showcase it. The students and staff of the school, and members of the community enjoyed looking at the cars. Suavecito Grill was on hand for those that needed some of the best food truck food in the Valley. Thank you, Danisha, for bringing the community together to celebrate a wonderful event. |

The “little things" that make a difference
When I visit classrooms, sometimes I am asked for things. When I went into Mrs. Trant’s kindergarten class, I was asked for some stickers. I did not have any and I was told that I needed to get some badge stickers like the badge on my shirt. It took a little bit but I was able to find some. When I went back to give my kindergarten kids their badge sticker, I think I made out better than they did. I got huge smiles and a hug from the one that made the special sticker request. My heart was full and happy more than they will know. It is the “little things” that matter the most. I love my kids!! |
